Blumenthal Center: Booth Playhouse
Blumenthal Performing Arts owns and operates six theaters in three campuses in Charlotte, NC. The Performing Arts Center, which opened Nov. 1992, has three performance spaces: the 2,100-seat Belk Theater; the 434-seat Booth Playhouse; and the Stage Door Theatre, which seats 150.
Blumenthal presents the Duke Energy Broadway Lights Series, featuring national touring Broadway productions and wide range of special attractions. Additionally, the Blumenthal's Education Department develops innovative partnerships with schools and community organizations to bring the performing arts to life for people throughout the region. In 2012, the Education Department successfully launched the inaugural Blumenthal Performing Arts High School Musical Theater Awards (The Blumeys), which celebrated the extraordinary talents of area students.
Blumenthal added Spirit Square for Arts and Education to its mission in 1997. The pride of Spirit Square is the 720-seat McGlohon Theater, which was originally the First Baptist Church sanctuary, but was carefully restored to preserve and enhance its unique architectural details. Spirit Square's second theater is the black-box style Duke Energy Theater, which seats 180.
In 2009, the 1,200-seat Knight Theater opened in the Levine Center for the Arts. This new space is the primary home for North Carolina Dance Theater and is used for touring Broadway shows and attractions.
